As charities navigate increasing complexity and demand, many philanthropic trusts and foundations are exploring meaningful ways to strengthen organisational capability and resilience.

This webinar series aims to provide funders and foundations with tools and approaches to enable deeper organisational support for their charity partners

Co-hosted by Philanthropy Australia, the Beyond the Grant webinar series is an exploration of new innovative practices with capacity building intermediary Benefolk.

Webinar 1: Supporting charities and social enterprises and their organisational effectiveness

In the first session, Benefolk CEO/Founder Julia Keady and Benefolk Foundation Manager Annette Herschtal will share insights from their work partnering with philanthropic foundations to deliver tailored, wrap-around support to their charity partners. This approach places each charity’s needs at the centre, and supports them through both challenges and opportunities.

The conversation will also include perspectives from a charity leader who has received this support, a Benefolk independent consultant who has provided the services, and a philanthropic funding partner who has provided the funding for the services.

The session will also outline international philanthropic trends in Organisational Effectiveness, and share Benefolk program outcomes including the organisational wellbeing uplift achieved by working in this joined-up way.

Webinar 2: Supporting charities and social enterprises through crisis and turnaround

Increasingly, philanthropic foundations are seeing their charity partners in distress and seeking urgent financial support or business turnaround support. But when is a business turnaround possible, and what are the steps for grantmakers, and then charities, to undergo such an undertaking.

In this next session, the Benefolk team will share insights into their business turnaround partnerships with philanthropic foundations, and how the right-sized turnaround advice can provide stronger bottom lines, improved governance and business practices, and a much-needed uplift in staff and organisational wellbeing.

Benefolk CEO/Founder Julia Keady Benefolk Foundation Manager Annette Herschtal will share key insights into this emergent practice.

They will also facilitate a conversation that will feature perspectives and experience from a social enterprise leader who has received this support, a philanthropic funding partner, and a turnaround specialist consultant.

Participants will each receive a Business Health Check list and a Conversation Starter Tool to help guide early-stage discussions with charities and social enterprises around their business turnaround potential.

Audience: This is event is for all funders. Affiliation with Philanthropy Australia and Benefolk are not required.

Note: To create space for open, honest, and confidential dialogue, these sessions will not be recorded.
